Cheri was born in Syracuse and returned to the area with her husband Andy after becoming a veterinarian.  She lives in Syracuse with Andy, their ten year old son Eli and numerous beloved family pets.

The Diane Smith Service Award was named after the longtime director of finance at Fairmount Animal Hospital and an early supporter of The Shamrock Animal Fund.
