syracuse half marathon donates

to shamrock animal fund

(Syracuse, NY) - The athletes were the stars of the show during the running of the frigid cold Syracuse Half Marathon, but once inside the warmth of the OnCenter four rescue puppies stole the hearts of anyone who passed them by. The Shamrock Animal Fund suggested to race organizers that the Dewitt Animal Hospital would be a terrific addition to the post-race Expo.

Dewitt contracts with the city of Syracuse to handle all the stray dogs taken in by animal control. That means they have hundreds of dogs each year that go unclaimed and are available for adoption. The adorable group was a mixture of breeds both big and small. They all had a temperament that made them accessible for anyone to pet them.

Credit goes to race organizers Rick Streeter, Ed Griffin and Pat Leone for including a charitable element of the annual races that attracts more than 3,000 runners. Our Shamrock Animal Fund could not be more appreciative for the $2500 donation presented to us on the main stage. They also donated $2500 to the Priscilla Mahar Animal Welfare Foundation.

Our day at the Syracuse Half confirmed what we already suspected. There seems to be a correlation between runners and pets. And maybe even more specifically runners and dogs. Person after person talked to us about the dogs they have at home. The rescue they now have as part of their lives.

While the runners and their families snacked on pancakes and pizza, Shamrock Animal Fund President Jamie Pomilio-Mulcahy gave them a brief synopsis of the Shamrock Animal Fund. Those cute puppies joined us on stage and then took a tour of the audience looking for adopting families.

Thanks to race organizers. What a great Sunday morning for Syracuse.
