Summer Update: Shamrock Animal Fund busy helping pets and owners
The summer of 2011 has been busy for the Shamrock Animal Fund as the phone calls, emails and Facebook postings for help continue to come in at a rapid rate. It has been a pleasure to help pay for the cost of veterinary care for a Bijon named Nikki or a cat named Tiger. Some have needed a test others have needed surgery. In just over one year of helping our greater Central New York community we have helped pay for the care of more than 40 animals and had contacts and offered guidance to close to 200 pet owners.
For those of you visiting our site or inquiring about how the Shamrock Animal Fund works here's a brief summary: We help pay for the veterinary care for animals in need that have owners with documented financial limitations. The Shamrock Animal Fund payment is a supplement to the full bill for care. The fund asks the pet owner to assume some of the financial responsibility which typically includes applying for Care Credit.
The Shamrock Animal Fund asks the veterinary provider to offer a discount or some method of financial accommodation such as a payment plan. We appreciate our partners in the veterinary community who have worked to make care more accessible for pet owners who have very limited resources.
Often it takes a family member, a friend or a neighbor to put this complete package together. There are also larger online sites such as IMOM.org and Rosesfund.org that can be tapped for assistance by the pet owner. Most sites require application prior to treatment.
We encourage you to email us at info@shamrockanimalfund.com or call 315-415-8563 if you need more information or you fit the general criteria and your animal is in need. You can also become part of the Shamrock Animal Fund community on Facebook for regular updates.
